silicate paint on specially fabricated cement panels
7’ x 12’
The Conservatory Garden Court, U.S. Botanic Garden, Washington, D.C. Commissioned by the Architect of the Capital, we coordinated with that office and the USBG to develop designs and the Library of Congress and the National Geographic Society to facilitate research. Keim Mineral Paints of Germany developed special paints to execute the works in response to the unique requirements of the Garden Court: high UV, heat and humidity. Execution in our studio required invention of special easels to hold the three145 pound panels (each 4’ x 7’) that constituted each of the six murals. Special care (and clearance to get onto Capital grounds) was required to safely ship and install the heavy, fragile work.
